By car

Nestled in the heart of Europe, the Lake Geneva Region (canton of Vaud) and its capital, Lausanne, are easily accessible by car via the network of Swiss motorways.

A crossroads of the great road communication axes, the Lake Geneva Region is traversed by the A1 motorway connecting Austria to France. Passing through St Margrethen, Zurich, Bern, Lausanne and Geneva, these 407 km offer a panorama of the Swiss plateau.

From Geneva airport to Lausanne, it is barely a 40-minute drive. Constructed in 1964 this section of the motorway is 65 km long, has 9 entries, two rest areas and a lorry stop at La Côte.

Leaving Basel, the A2 motorway allows access to the Lake Geneva Region thanks to its link with the A12, which converges from Fribourg to Lausanne while passing through Vevey. This motorway is worth the drive with its pastoral landscapes and the fabulous view of Lake Geneva as it descends towards Vevey.

In Switzerland the “vignette” acts as tollbooth on the motorways. It can be purchased for CHF 40.- in post offices or service stations and is valid until 31st January of the following year.
